When Everything Feels Urgent

Hey Reader,

We've all been there. You have a plan for the day, and 10 minutes in, someone knocks on your door with a request. You have three fires that take your responsibility, and you have capable people, but you convince yourself that you need to do it yourself rather than delegate.

You get home, and you are exhausted. You've been productive, and the reality is you've been reactive!!!

The Clarity Spark

Your inbox isn’t your strategy. Reactivity feels productive, but burns leadership capital. Effective leaders pause before they respond.

Wright Tool: The 2Q Pause + Leadership Empowerment Grid

Before you head back into reactivity...I want you to take a 2Q pause...

Before acting on anything, ask:

  1. Is this truly urgent, or just loud and distracting my attention?
  2. Is this mine to solve, or someone else’s growth opportunity

Then sort through what’s yours to act on vs. what you can delegate or drop? Here’s the four-quadrant tool I use with clients called the Leadership Empowerment Grid:

🔥 ACT NOW
Yours and urgent. Respond swiftly and strategically.

🤍 PAUSE & PRIORITIZE
Yours, but not urgent. Step back and ask if it aligns with your actual priorities.

✅ DELEGATE WITH GUIDANCE
Not yours, but requires support. Help someone else grow while maintaining clarity.

⛔ REDIRECT OR RELEASE
Not yours, not urgent. Say no, coach someone through it, or let it go. This is noise.

Business Tip

Use the Leadership Empowerment Grid in your next team check-in. Let team members sort their to-do list through the grid. You’ll clarify roles, elevate ownership, and model empowered delegation.
